The past few days have been a whirlwind in Atlanta! I've been spending lots of time catching up with friends, as well as wrapping up a few odds and ends. I spent Thursday night with Lisa and Brian who were sooo kinda to let me crash! Friday I was lucky to sell some of my furniture, and it was a bit amusing to see them try to get a dresser and bookshelves into a subaru outback. A very useful car, but the girl definitely overestimated the size of her trunk! Friday night I went to Brickstore with some of the PT crew and friends. It was nice to hear how everyone is doing in their new careers, and to catch up on all the ATL gossip. One of the many reasons I love Brickstore is that their beer menu is twice as thick as the food menu!! And they are unique imports, like my new favorite: Delirium Nocturnum! So after dinner of course it is a monsoon outside! I was giving a friend a vaccuum also, so it was quite amusing to try to not get completely drenched and transfer a huge vaccuum from one trunk to another. Thankfully Matt had a huge umbrella so I wasn't quite completely soaked.
After dinner, I met up with some friends at a secret bar, think "speakeasy". It's located at this really awful bar/club (no i'm not actually going to tell you where it is!). There is a red telephone booth and you go in and dial a secret number and the back door opens up into a 1920's bar. The decor is almost like a gentleman's club (nooo not that kind of club) and there is a screen over the top of the bar that plays silent movies. It's a totally different world where people dress up nicely, offer their chairs to women, and the bartenders wear a tool belt because the drinks are that complicated. Unless you order a scotch with ice, where they take chunks of ice and stick them in a pressor and you watch the ice slowly transform into a perfectly round ball. They have these wonderful couches too that are super comfortable where you can sit and talk and sip your drink. More or less it's wonderful. After that we finished out the night at Northside Tavern, a classic dive bar with awesome live music (a stark atmosphere difference from the first place). I proceeded to make a fool out of myself attempting to play pool, with a few extremely lucky runs. We of course stay till close, and I didn't get back home till 3 AM! I will miss Atlanta nights. Random fact: apparently in atlanta when you get a parking stub at a late night place, on the back you get a phone number and discount for a DUI lawyer. THIS IS AWFUL. Are they encouraging DUIs or just taking advantage of the opportunity?
I've been staying with the family I used to babysit for. They have 4 year old twins and a baby (just over a year old). They are so adorable and their mom is wonderful to me! Saturday night I babysat for them, which involved lots of playing on "pirate ships" with a crew of every single toy they own. We've also been out to breakfast and dinner and more importantly Yogli Mogli! Which is a delectable yogurt bar with several flavors and as many toppings as you like. I tend to get one fruity flavor and then smother it in delicious things like chocolate chips, reeces, heath bar, sprinkles, and blueberries (ok so the yogurt and blueberries are healthy, right? Both the kids and adults love it!! It's also nice to spend time with Lisa once the kids are asleep, and thankfully she has HBO which means I actually got to watch True Blood on a sunday. I am minorly in love with that show (and Eric and Alcide!!) It's getting crazy intense and i'm sad there are only 2 more episodes left.
Unfortunately today i had to take apart my desk because it just would not sell. This involved much cursing and banging around in my storage unit, with only one broken part, and it is now stuffed in my dad's car after much hard labor in the sun. It is times like these where a boyfriend would really come in handy. I thought Ikea stuff was supposed to be easy to disassemble??
I've been eating a ton this weekend as I spend almost every meal with a different person. I'm so lucky I get to catch up with everyone before I take off across the country!! Tomorrow I close up shop at storage (phew) and drive the 6 hours back to NC (ughhh). I'm sad to be leaving, but its about time i really get focused on studying for the boards... 2 weeks!!
