Today I got a washer and dryer! This may not be exciting news to many of you, but for me it is wonderful! I no longer have to trek across the parking lot to the laundry building. A place where clothes go to die! There's the threat of bleach left in the machines, and the threat of all your clean clothes smelling of smoke (the entire building reeks, it's not even that cold yet, why on earth are people smoking inside ?!?!?!). In addition, the washers aren't even big enough to wash a load of socks, and they require $1 in quarters per load. Every time I want to do laundry I have to go find someone to trade cash for quarters, which at most stores you can do. Not at target, oh no. Apparently that is against their rules. No quarters for you! Needless to say, i'm very excited about having my own washer and dryer in the comfort of my own home.
I had a very unique Halloween this year, in that it wasn't the typical - go out and drink a ton and be ridiculous kind of weekend (and did not involve the tocatta and fugue during a midnight concert, dressed in costume, with objects and people flying around me). I guess all in all it was a tame weekend. We did dress up at work and had a pot luck party. Our patients cook some wonderful food! We had everything you could think of, including 2 different types of chili, corn bread, bean dip, some sort of rice and shrimp, an indian rice dish, cupcakes, homemade chocolate covered peanuts/pecans/peanut butter, apple pie, and lemonade! A true smorgasbord of food, but it was wonderful and I got to take some home.
Then on Saturday a bunch of us from work went to the public golf course in costume! You would never get away with that in Pinehurst! We were ridiculous. We had Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter, Patch (dalmation from 101 dalmations), Minnie Mouse, and of course me - Jessie from Toy Story. So we play our 9 holes of golf, and then decided we were starving and needed to eat before we would be able to drive home (yay cart lady with the yummy drinks), and we go into the clubhouse and there is a wedding going on! It wasn't your average wedding either, they were ALL in costume! Talk about a fun wedding. We ran into the mother of the bride while we were in the restroom, and she was telling Dyanna how her daughter loved Alice in Wonderland and how we should come crash the party, but to be careful because there are a lot of scary vampires around and we have beautiful necks. Seriously. ?!?! There had to be an open bar somewhere. We wandered around a bit but it was stuffed with costumed wedding parties, and ended up just chilling on the back porch/bar area and eating a ton of deliciously fried foods.
On the actual day of Halloween, I met up with some guys I have met here at one of the local breweries. There were hardly any people there, but the beer and food was delicious! I enjoyed hanging out with just guys for once. Let me tell you how wonderful it is to spend time with boys (or I guess I should say men?) after being immersed among 31 girls in PT school for 3 years. yikes.
I had a fun time this weekend, but didn't see as many interesting costumes as I would have expected. I think I'm ok with that. I can't believe it's November already and I have worked a month already! Time flies....
